Rubbish piled up in Duke Street, Glasgow. The nearby Reidvale Housing Association is complaining of discrimination in rubiish collections in their area. Glasgow City Council operates a free collection service for heavy items of rubbish such as old cookers, beds and washing machines. Owner occupiers can place bulky items safely in back courts and council staff will come in and pick them up, without charge. Housing Association tenants have been told this free service is not available to them and they must pile up their bulky items in the street. Alternatively, community based housing associations must pay an extra charge to the Council which is not levied on anyone else, even private landlords.
